Do you know what the sky looked like at the moment of your birth? That is basically what a natal chart is. There are many different systems of looking at the data but a natal chart captures on paper the movements of the planets, sun, moon and asteroids at the time and place of your birth. You can see if the moon was above or below the horizon, what planets were in which sign and much more.
The chart is broken down into 12 houses each of which cover different aspects of your life and personality. An astrologer can read this chart by looking at the position of the planets in the houses and in relation to each other (aspects).
The natal chart is a story about you and all the possibilities you were born with. Of course thanks to free will, two people with the same natal chart can express the energy of that chart in different ways but the will be undercurrents of similarities.
