Aries New Moon Hybrid Solar Eclipse

We are in the midst of transformation as the Aries Moon joins the Sun in Aries for a rare hybrid solar eclipse just after midnight (12:12 am EDT) on April 20th.

This is the second Aries new moon this year, a rarity in itself, at the anaretic degree (29) which carries a lot of potent Aries energy. This is about new beginnings, being courageous, taking a risk, and sometimes leaping before we look. Of course for there to be new beginnings something has to end which the eclipse often signifies.

This isn’t reliably predictable energy because of the erratic quality of eclipse energy. It shows us what is in the shadows, it shades the bright light and temporarily brings out what would normally stay hidden.

The moon enters Taurus about 15 minutes later and squares Pluto and shortly after (at 4:13 am)the Sun joins her. The tension with Pluto highlights this shadow we encounter at the eclipse. Whatever we have hidden away may now need to be dealt with. There is healing involved because both Jupiter and Chiron are in Aries but most likely we need to flow with the changing tides rather than fight the current.

By the way Mercury goes retrograde in Taurus on Friday, 4/21 so that energy is in this lunation as well. This reminds us to reflect and reevaluate our physical comforts and security, reflect on what we value and remember what keeps us grounded.
